Jo Penston

Hi, I’m Jo. As a Play Therapist and trainee Adolescent Psychotherapist I’m dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for young people to explore and express their emotions. I understand verbalizing feelings can be challenging for children. I am a dedicated and compassionate therapist specializing in child and adolescent mental health. I hold multiple postgraduate qualifications including a  Postgraduate Diploma in Play Therapy, Postgraduate Certificate in Child Art Psychotherapy, and I am currently completing a Masters in Play Therapy and Adolescent Psychotherapy. I utilize various techniques such as art, puppets, sandtray, storytelling, and games to facilitate their expression in a child-friendly manner. This approach allows a deeper understanding of their experiences, assists processing different emotions, to support growth and healing.

I build a therapeutic relationship as a foundation to support children who may have experienced attachment difficulties, separation, trauma, medical issues, significant life changes, anxiety, friendship issues, autism, adhd, difficulty processing feelings and emotions, bereavement, and many more.

Working closely with caregivers is an integral part of my work as you are the most important person to the child. You possess unique insights and experiences regarding your child that can greatly contribute to the therapeutic process. This collaboration allows you to become advocates for your child’s wellbeing and reinforces the therapeutic work we do together.
